Literary Encounters of Women Writers from the Canary Islands

The Literary Encounters of Women Writers of the Canary Islands turn their attention to new Canarian literature. Their aim is to create a space for dialogue, reflection, and exchange around contemporary literary creation in the Canary Islands, as a commitment to disseminating the thought, culture, and emerging voices of the archipelago.

The focus is on recognizing the relevance of their works and their contribution to the regional and national cultural and literary landscape. Particular interest is placed on new generations of authors such as Lana Corujo, Aida González Rossi, Juli Mesa, Ainara Oleaga, and Alexis Erbez Díez, as well as established and renowned authors like Alicia Llarena, Acerina Cruz, and Daniela Martín Hidalgo.

This group of writers, hailing from different islands of the archipelago, will participate in three panel discussions dedicated to the following themes: Literature and Memory, Literature and Territory, and Literature and Diversity. These discussions will be moderated by young philologists, fostering a relaxed and insightful conversation about issues such as identity, landscape, collective memory, dissent, and new ways of narrating the Canary Islands in the current context.

The meetings will also engage with the parallel exhibition Constellation of Canary Island Writers, which will take place at Casa Anchieta, establishing a bridge between different generations of authors and highlighting the continuous expansion of this literary cartography, thanks to the emergence of new talents in the field of Canary Island literature.

These literary meetings have been organized in collaboration with the Cultural Classroom of Language and Literature of the University of La Laguna.
