Who is Marcel Mettelsiefen?

Filmmaker, photojournalist and German documentary producer, nominated for the Academy Award (Oscar), winner of six BAFTA awards and four Emmy awards. He is recognized for his humanistic approach and his visually shocking style in documentary cinema. He began his career as a photojournalist, which marked his visual and narrative gaze, leading him to document conflicts and humanitarian crises in places like Haiti, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya and Latin America. Subsequently, it was consolidated as documentary director, standing out for their ability to obtain intimate access to its protagonists and honestly portray the moral, emotional and political dilemmas of our time. Among his most recognized works are Children on the Front Line: Syria (winner of two Bafta, two Emmy and a Grierson Award), Watani: My Homeland (nominated for the Óscar Award), In Her Hands (Emmy winner), Children of the Taliban (Double Bafta), Afghanistan: Grimme-Preis and Rose d'Or), and State of Rage: Daughters of the Holy Land (winner of two Bafta in 2025). His work has been transmitted on international platforms such as Netflix, Channel 4, ARD, ZDF, CNN, Al Jazeera, Art, Canal+ and Frontline PBS. In 2023, he founded Duskwater Films, a producer dedicated to creating film documentaries that reveal human complexity on the margins of power and history.
