Description
The exhibition “Universal Declaration of Human Rights of Generations. La Laguna Declaration 1994” invites visitors to discover the origin and relevance of a pioneering initiative that placed the University of La Laguna at the center of an international debate on the responsibility of present generations towards future ones.
The presentation will begin with a speech by journalist Zenaido Hernández Cabrera, who will contextualize this historical event and the process that led to the adoption, in 1994, of what became known as the La Laguna Declaration. Driven by figures such as Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Karel Vasak, and Francisco Aznar Vallejo, the declaration was the result of the work of more than thirty experts from twenty-one countries committed to building a global vision based on intergenerational solidarity.
Following the presentation, attendees will be able to participate in a guided tour of the exhibition led by its curator, Francisco Cedrés, who will offer a detailed overview of the exhibition contents, historical documents and the ideas that shaped this project, whose relevance remains fully current in the face of the environmental, social and ethical challenges of the 21st century.
An opportunity to learn about a significant part of the intellectual history of the Canary Islands and to reflect on the legacy we want to leave for future generations.
