Description

The recital "Islands and Strings" will bring together on stage Benito Cabrera and the musicians of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in a dialogue between the Canarian timple and chamber string instruments.

The celebration of this concert is part of the commitment of the II International Campus City of La Laguna to complement academic reflection with cultural proposals that contribute to highlighting heritage, diversity and dialogue between cultures, values closely linked to the principles of democracy and human rights that together with heritage and artificial intelligence, are the focus of this second edition.

Islands and Strings is a musical program that bridges oral tradition and written music, island roots and European musical language. The Canarian timple joins the string quartet to create a new space where the popular becomes classical, and the classical transforms into intimate emotion. Benito Cabrera, a key figure in contemporary timple music, presents a selection of pieces that engage with the chamber repertoire and revitalize it through Canarian identity. The evening concludes with a nod to the 18th century: an adaptation of one of the guitar quintets by Luigi Boccherini, the Italian composer who lived and wrote in Spain, and whose music reflects a taste for the picturesque, the danceable, and the gallant.
