The concept of heritage is historically linked to a specific context and does not constitute a universal or neutral category. To apply it today to the broadest possible range of phenomena, it is essential to recall and interpret both the establishment of the idea of heritage and the most significant stages of its institutional and intellectual development. The final paradox of a constructive approach to analyze the heritage can be expressed in a simple statement: the heritage is never inherited; Rather, it must be built.
