. ● This Friday sees the opening of the open-air exhibition 'Written in Stone,' which will be located in the plaza del Adelantado until July 31.

The Ciudad de la Laguna International Campus will offer a varied cultural programming throughout the month of July with the aim of inviting citizens to get involved and reflect on the thematic blocks of the forum, such as the consequences of war or the value of heritage.

The initiative, promoted by the CajaCanarias Foundation, the University of La Laguna, and the La Laguna City Council, with technical coordination by the Fyde CajaCanarias Foundation, includes various activities such as exhibitions, workshops, and conferences. These will cover topics ranging from the islands' rich archaeological and cultural heritage to the impact of conflict on people's lives. Prominent figures will participate, including war photographer Alberto Hugo Rojas and German filmmaker Marcel Mettelsiefen.

The itinerary will begin this Friday, July 4, at the CajaCanarias Cultural Center in La Laguna with the opening of the exhibition 'Written in Stone,' which offers a scientific perspective on the archaeological heritage of the Canary Islands. Located in the plaza del Adelantado, the exhibition is free to the public and will be open until July 31.

All the initiatives included in this cultural agenda are free and open to the public until capacity is reached, with the exception of the closing concert of the folk group Los Sabandeños, which celebrates its 60th Anniversary, and which will have a single entrance cost of 5 euros, the benefits of which will be destined for a charitable purpose.

It is worth noting that, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the recognition of San Cristóbal de La Laguna as a World Heritage Site, all activities will be held in emblematic spaces of the city that will become lively stages for the promotion of culture and the exchange of ideas.

A cultural program that invites reflection and knowledge

On Friday, July 4, starting at 6:00 p.m., the CajaCanarias Space in La Laguna will host the conference 'Written in Stone. The territory of Addar in the Guanche era' by the History professor of the University of La Laguna, José Farrujia de la Rosa, which includes a dialogue with the journalist Verónica Galán and a guided tour of the exhibition.

From Tuesday, July 15th to July 31st, 2025, in the same space, the exhibition 'The Disasters of War: Photographs by Alberto Hugo Rojas' will be on display, showcasing various snapshots taken by this Lanzarote-born war photographer. The exhibition will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The photographic exhibition will be complemented by the lecture 'The Narrative of War Through Photojournalism' by Alberto Hugo Rojas himself, followed by a discussion with Carmen Julia Hernández, a journalist from Radio Nacional de España. It will take place on Tuesday, July 15, starting at 6:00 p.m., with free admission until capacity is reached.

The cultural program continues during the second session of the Campus, on Tuesday, July 29, with a screening of the documentary 'Daughters of the Holy Land'. The film delves into the consequences of the conflict in the West Bank and the concept of peace through the eyes of two girls: Jena, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp, and Renana, from a Jewish settler family. Following the screening, there will be a discussion with director Marcel Mettelsiefen and producer Mayte Carrasco, moderated by David Baute, a documentary filmmaker from the Canary Islands.

As a grand finale, the folk group Los Sabandeños will offer a special concert to celebrate their 60th anniversary, representing Canarian identity and collective memory through music. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 30, starting at 8:00 p.m. at the Teatro Leal. Tickets are a symbolic €5, with all proceeds going to the NGO Paz en Construcción (Peace in Construction).
