The consequences of war and the value of heritage, axes of the cultural agenda of the International Campus Ciudad de la Laguna

Exhibitions, colloquiums and free conferences are added to a solidarity concert of 60th anniversary Los Sabandeños
This Friday the outdoor sample 'written in stone' is inaugurated, which will be located in the plaza del Adelantado until July 31

The Ciudad de la Laguna International Campus will offer a varied cultural programming throughout the month of July with the aim of inviting citizens to get involved and reflect on the thematic blocks of the forum, such as the consequences of war or the value of heritage.

The initiative, promoted by the CajaCanarias Foundation, University of La Laguna and City Council of La Laguna, with the technical coordination of the Fyde Cajacanarias Foundation, proposes different activities such as exhibitions, workshops and conferences, which will address from the rich archaeological and cultural legacy of the islands to how conflicts influence the lives of people. All this with the participation of outstanding figures, such as the War Graphic reporter Alberto Hugo Rojas or the German filmmaker Marcel Mettelsiefen.

The itinerary will start this Friday, July 4, in the CajaCanarias Cultural Space of La Laguna with the opening ceremony of the sample 'written in stone', which provides a scientific vision of the Archaeological Heritage of the Canary Islands. Located in the plaza del Adelantado, the exhibition is free access and can be visited until July 31.

All the initiatives included in this cultural agenda are free and free of charge until capacity is completed, with the exception of the closing concert of the folk group Los Sabandeños, which celebrates its 60th anniversary, and that will have a unique entry cost of 5 euros, whose benefits will be destined for a beneficial purpose.

It should be noted that, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the recognition of San Cristóbal de la Laguna as a World Heritage, all activities will be held in emblematic spaces of the city that will become living scenarios for the promotion of culture and the exchange of ideas.

A cultural program that invites reflection and knowledge

On Friday, July 4, starting at 6:00 p.m., the CajaCanarias space of the Laguna will host the Conference 'Written in Piedra. Addar's territory in Guanche 'time in charge of the Professor of History at the University of La Laguna, José Farrujia de la Rosa, which includes a dialogue with the journalist Verónica Galán and a guided tour of the exhibition.

From Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in the same space, you can visit the exhibition 'The disasters of the war. Photographs by Alberto Hugo Rojas', which shows different snapshots captured by this Lanzarote war graphic reporter. The sample can be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The photographic exhibition will be complemented with the conference 'The story of the war through photojournalism' by Alberto Hugo Rojas himself, with a subsequent colloquium with the national journalist of Spain Carmen Julia Hernández. It will take place on Tuesday, July 15, starting at 6:00 p.m., with free admission until capacity is completed.

The cultural calendar will continue during the second session of the Campus, on Tuesday, July 29, with the projection of the documentary 'Daughters of the Holy Earth'. The piece delves into the consequences of the conflict in the West Bank and the concept of peace through the vision of two girls: Jena, inhabitant of the Yenin refugee camp, and Renana, belonging to a family of Jewish settlers. After the viewing, a colloquium will be held with its director Marcel Mettelsiefen and the producer Mayte Carrasco, moderated by David Baute, documentary filmmaker and Canarian filmmaker.

As a final brooch, the folk group Los Sabandeños will offer a special concert for its 60th anniversary, to represent Canarian collective identity and memory through music. The appointment will be held on Wednesday, July 30, starting at 8:00 p.m., at the Teatro Leal. Tickets have a symbolic price of 5 euros, whose full collection will be allocated to the NGO Paz under construction.
